Mark 9:38-41 Part 2 of Romans 13:8-10

INTRODUCTION:

1.  Turn with me in your Bibles to Mark 9:38-41 Part 2 of Romans 13:8-10.

2.  Last week we took a look at Romans 13:8-10.

3.  We saw, Owe no man anything. V8-10

  A.  Once again, we need to get to the meat of this passage.

    1.  In Romans 13:8. (Do not owe anyone anything, except to love one another

For the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.)

      a.  The word Owe. (In the GK means to be under obligation to some, but it

also means to be guilty, now I thought that was an interesting aspect of

the word in this context, because in this case it is talking about the law)

      b.  In this instance we are talking. (Really being free or not under obligation

to someone or to something, except in one instance and that is we all

owe each other love, so we are really talking about we are under the

obligation to love one another. Now, there are many Scriptures that

talk about debt, but this is not a financial discussion)

      c.  But this is a discussion. (About our moral responsibility to each other,

and in this same sentence Paul tells us that to love one another is the

fulfilment of the law, and the law he brings up are those 10 commands)

      d.  Look at Romans 13:9. (Paul names a few of them, which comes from

Exodus 20:1-17, let’s read them, and take a look at this because I

Believe we have a tendency to get caught up in this list and that is not

What we are supposed to do)

      e.  Here what I mean. (This list of commandments are not the focus for us,

my wife makes a shopping list before she goes shopping, and that list is

made up of things that she sees we run out that she needs, so when I

come to her and ask, did you get this? Or did you get that? She says did

you put it on the list? But this list reminds her of what we need, she can

go back to that list and see that the shopping was done properly)

      f.  But the list was not the goal. (Shopping for what we need is the goal, the

10 Commandments are not a list of things to be check off each day, the

Real goal is Love, the 10 Commandments are a measurement to see if

I am really being loving or not, because if I am being loving then those

          10Commandment are being fulfilled)

      g.  Look at Mark 12:28-31. (These two come from Deuteronomy 6:4-6 and

Leviticus 19:18 and in Mark 12:31 this is Yahshua talking, there is no

           Greater commands than these)

      h.  So, really. (If we want to fulfill the Commandments, what we really

need to do is study what love is, and I don’t mean love that is defined

          by Yahweh not by us)

      i.  Turn with me to 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. (Now in my version it uses the

word Love, in the KJV it uses charity, but the GK is love. I also

want to point our that there are three different GK words that are

translated love one is for a sexual love the other is used for a brotherly

love, but this one and the we are talking about in Romans 13 is one

used for a Godly love, and one that makes a commitment to cherish and

          to up hold another person)

1).  In 1 Corinthians 13:1. (Paul talks about that if he were to speak in the

Tongues of men and angels but does not have love, then he is a noisy

Gong or a clanging cymbal, there was a cult in Corinth called Cybele

That was the fastest growing cult at that time, it was a bloody cult

That made its priests and priestess to cut themselves during some of

Their rituals and the way they began their festival days were by

Cymbals and drum as the went through the streets, look at 1 Kings

              18:25-29)

2).  So, Paul is saying that. (It is love that sets us apart from all of the

Worlds religions, see sometimes we think that if we do such and such

We are all good, but it is love that is what cause us to do the things

That we are called to do)

3).  Let’s jump down to 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. (Love is patient, kind, does

Not envy, is not boastful, is not arrogant, is not rude, is not self

Seeking, is not irritable, does not keep a record of wrong’s, love finds

No joy in unrighteousness, rejoices in the truth, it bears all things,

Believes all things (Believes Yahweh) hopes all things, endures all

              Things but love never ends)

4).  Look at Gal. 5:22-23. (The fruit of the Spirit, this is what is produces

When we have the Holy Spirit, Love, joy peace, patience, kindness,

Goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, no law against)

5).  Look at 1 John 3:16-17. (John says this from the beginning of this

Passage this is how we have come to know love, what John is saying

Here is that what he about to reveal to us is the measurement of love,

He (Yahshua) laid His life down for us, and we should lay our life

              Down for our brother)

6).  So, Paul’s summation. (Love does no wrong against a neighbor

Therefore, it is the fulfilment of the law, if you will notice and the

Bottom line it is about what we do to Yahweh and to each other that

Defines if we are Torah observant or not, because according to this

If we are loving Yahweh and our brother then we truly are Torah

               Observant)

7).  Look at Matt 25:31-46. (This puts it into prospective, what we do to

Others is about what we do to Yahshua, when it is all said and done

The bottom line will be about what we have done to Yahshua, the

Way we treat each other is how we are treating Him)

4.  Play the worship video for all to see. (This takes a little over 7 minutes to

     Play through)

5.  As I was watching this video. (I felt a strong sense of the Holy Spirits

Presence with me and I began to weep, and found myself worshipping with

With them, as I began to see these young people lifting their hands in

     Worship)

6.  When it was over I began to ask questions. (Who are these people? Where do

Come from? What do they believe?)

7.  Then the Holy Spirit spoke to me. (And this is what He said, why does that

Matter? You rejoiced in the fact that my name was being lifted up as a

Sacrifice to me, and that made you rejoice)

8.  Then He gave me these verses in Mark 9:38-41. (Which actually kind goes on

About this idea of love that we spoke about last week)

9.  Read Mark 9:38-41, Pray!

I.  Whoever is not against us is for us. V38-41

 A.  We need to understand the difference between being against something and for

       Something.

  1.  As we look at these verses. (I would also like to look at the things that were

Going on with these men that were called disciples of Yahshua)

    a.  As we look at John statement. (We saw someone driving out demons in

your name, now no matter how you look at this, meaning in English or in

Greek still agrees that devils or demons were being driven out in the

Name of Yahshua by people that were not among the disciple’s that were

With Him on a regular bases)

    b.  Now this is very interesting. (Especially if we look at the full context of

this verse, look at Mark 9:14-29, in these verses we find the disciples in a

situation that, Yahshua had taken Peter, James, and John to the Mount

where He was Transfigured at, and then they were traveling back from

         that place)

      c.  It says that when they came to the disciples. (That they found a large

crowd of people surrounding the disciples, and the scribes were

disputing with them, when the whole crowd saw Yahshua their

attention was turned to Him and they ran to meet Him)

      d.  Yahshua asks what they were arguing over? (It says some of the crowd

answered Him, but as you look the one at the core of the issue spoke out

and said that he was the one that brought his son to him, so the man’s

intentions were to bring this son to Yahshua)

      e.  At this point the man begins to explain. (The reason was that his son has a

spirit “that makes him unable to speak”, this is important because that

piece of information is what Yahshua specifically addresses in Verse 25,

Yahshua calls mute and deaf spirit come out, so the fruit of that spirit

Identifies who the spirit is, just a side note)

      f.  Back to the passage. (He says I ask your disciples to cast the demon out

but they couldn’t, Yahshua identifies the problem is they were

unbelief, He didn’t say unbeliever’s but they still had area’s in their

lives that they were not believing as they should, and Yahshua states

that everything is possible if you believe)

      g.  When everyone had left. (The disciples asked Him why they couldn’t do

that and Yahshua answered that this one comes out only by prayer and

this should speak to us about our prayer life if someone comes to us in

this or similar situation is our prayer life and faith at a place where we

            can help them)

      k.  Now back to Mark 9:38-41. (The same should have been true for John

here in this passage should John have been able to tell that seeing that

people with demon were being freed when they were using the name of

Yahshua? Look at what Yahshua says there is no one who will perform

A miracle in my name and can soon after speak evil of us)

      l.  Now this person that John speaks of. (He didn’t run around with Yahshua

and the disciples at that time, but at some point, it appears that this

person had come into contact with Yahshua and in someway had put

faith in Yahshua and started to step out in faith and practice those

things that they saw, maybe even at the deliverance we just talked

          about in Mark 9:14-29)

      m.  And maybe we need to look at the fruit. (That is being produced before

we do any judging of what their theology, or any other part of their

lives, as we could clearly see in the video these people are truly taking

            an active role in worshipping)

      n.  The check as I began to ask questions. (Was to show me that the main

thing was that they were lifting the name of Yahshua, even in Scripture

and we all ought to rejoice in that)

      o.  Look at the last verse. (Who ever gives us a cup of water will have a

reward and will not lose it, in this verse it was mostly about Yahshua

teaching His disciples and correcting their immaturity)
